The project CONTOUR is a collaborative project of Dutch and Korean artists Ted Oonk and Su Jung. Starting point of the project are the letters that the artists started writing. From their diverse cultural perspectives they reflect on the island as a physical and mental concept. CONTOUR is a long-term project in which the research about what an island embraces is central.
The letters form the foundation to which the other works within the project develop. In result, CONTOUR mainly consists of texts, video, audio fragments and photography. These works deal with the island as an unimportant and forgotten place, they twist the collective implications of utopia.
The publication When It Turns To The Past is also part of CONTOUR. It contains twelve short stories with black and white images. The text is written by Su Jung, having its fragmental structure which frequently appears in Jung’s narratives. In a dry voice the story describes a mundane life on an island and a person encountering a sudden yet tranquil disappearance.

Het project CONTOUR is een collaboratief project tussen kunstenaars Ted Oonk (nl) en Su Jung (kr). Het startpunt van het project zijn de brieven die zij elkaar zijn gaan sturen vanuit hun verschillende culturele perspectieven. Deze brieven tasten het eiland als een fysieke en mentale plek af. CONTOUR is een langlopend project waarin het constante onderzoek naar wat een eiland omvat centraal staat.
De brieven vormen de basis van waaruit veel van het andere werk binnen het project tot stand komt. CONTOUR bestaat uit verschillend materiaal zoals video, fotografie, teksten en audio. De meeste werken focussen op het eiland als een onbelangrijke en vergeten plek, ze bevragen het collectieve gedachtengoed van een eiland als utopia.
Als onderdeel van CONTOUR werd er in 2017 de publicatie When It Turns To The Past uitgegeven. Het bevat twaalf korte verhalen en zwart-wit beelden. De tekst werd geschreven door Su Jung, en is te herkennen aan haar veelgebruikte fragmentarische structuur en droge manier van vertellen.

컨투어 CONTOUR 는 네덜란드 작가 테드 웅크와 한국 작가 정수의 콜라보레이션 프로젝트이다. 이 프로젝트는 테드 웅크가 정수에게 섬에 대한 개인적 생각과 문화적 관점을 공유하고자 요청하면서 시작되었다. 섬에 대한 웅크의 이상적이고 이국적인 이미지와는 달리 정수는 고립되고 유기된 장소로서의 섬을 이야기했고 이후 프로젝트는 섬이 일반적으로 갖는 낭만적 인상에 다양한 접근을 시도하게 된다.
2015년, 두 작가는 물리적, 심리적 공간으로서의 섬에 관한 생각들을 적극적으로 교환하기 위해 서로에게 편지를 쓰기 시작한다. 다채로운 주제들이 오갔지만 그 중 가장 주요한 대화의 소재는 중요하지 않은 것과 잊혀진 것에 대한 관심이었다. 이 편지들은 프로젝트를 해석하기 위한 토대이며 동시에 정수의 서사와 테드 웅크의 사진 작업의 맥락적 원천이라 할 수 있다.
프로젝트 컨투어CONTOUR는 주로 사진과 텍스트로 이루어져 있으며 이 결과물은 섬을 잊혀진 미미한 장소로 인식하고 낙원에 대한 집단적 관념들을 비틀고자한다. 사진 시리즈에서 작가는 일련의 평범한 사물을 수집한 뒤 이들을 중요한 의미를 지닌 상상의 물체로 전환하고 기록한다. 텍스트는 애초에 존재하지 않는 미지의 섬을 배경으로 설정하지만, 본래 섬이 가진 낙원의 이미지와는 거리가 먼 상실, 소멸, 부재가 발생하는 장소로 묘사하고 있다.
출판물인 그렇게 과거가 된다 When It Turns To The Past 또한 프로젝트의 한 부분으로 12개의 짧은 이야기와 흑백 사진으로 구성되어 있다. 텍스트는 정수의 창작물로 그의 서사에서 빈번히 나타나는 파편화 된 이야기 구조가 고스란히 드러난다. 이야기는 차분한 어조를 유지하며 섬에서의 단조로운 일상과 갑작스럽지만 평온한 상실을 경험하는 인물을 그려내고있다.
